How to Help Baby Sleep

Some suggestions for helping your baby sleep are to do quiet activities at the end of the day, develop a bedtime routine that she gets used to, repeat the routine on a consistent schedule, and read to the baby to help her settle down, with some rocking and cuddling for comfort.  Speaking of comfort, learn to help your baby comfort himself, which can assist him in going back to sleep on his own if he wakes up during the night.  Give her a pacifier, soft toy, or special blanket from a new baby gift basket to hold.  It may also be helpful to put the baby to bed when she’s awake, rather than allowing her to fall asleep while nursing or rocking.

Some babies wake up periodically because they are hungry, particularly under the age of three months.  If your baby usually falls asleep in the early evening, try waking him at 11:00 pm or so for a feeding, which might help him sleep until early morning.  Although many people believe feeding cereal to babies will help them sleep through the night, studies have not shown that this is a fact.  However, all babies are different and whatever works best for you and your individual baby is the best method for you to use.  Some babies take longer to learn to sleep through the night than others.

Baby Gift Ideas

Recently, friends of mine had a set of twins.  It was really exciting, and the babies are healthy and beautiful, a boy and a girl.  But for some reason, I had a mental block when it came to baby gift ideas for the new family.

When I asked other friends for advice, I was reminded that with multiple births, the basics apply—the family will need double (or triple, or quadruple, and so on) of everything.  Baby gift baskets are a great choice for multiple births so that each baby has his or her own special items and necessities.
